Recovery of electronic wastes as fillers for electromagnetic shielding in building components: An LCA study

The present study reports the development of sandwich panels for building walls having electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding abilities. Conductive polymer composites (CPCs) have started being employed as EMI materials. In this paper we propose use a conductive composite flat sheet made high-density polyethylene (HDPE) recovered from municipal solid wastes (MSW) used polymeric matrix, “doped” with dispersed metal fillers recycled e-wastes. Test results proved that enhance electrical conductivity and enable shielding. Different were discussed in context applications, using identical HDPE/metal-filler sheets, but different thermal insulation material (polystyrene glass wool). life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology was applied to evaluate environmental impact generated during following steps: a) recycling thermoplastic materials MSW; b) recovering metallic components waste PCB; c) re-use into properties buildings. goal LCA perform comparative analysis structures manufactured be buildings applications order assist selection eco-design.
